Simon Addy
Simon Addy has become known in KwaZulu-Natal and throughout South Africa as one of the country’s leading landscape artists.
Rendered with a passion and technical facility reminiscent of the Old Masters, Simon’s landscapes evoke the spirit of African winter grasses, veldfires, and old stone houses under brooding skies. His iconic “big skies” are what standout in all of his work, more aptly capturing what the human eye perceives than what traditional landscape and wildlife painters might otherwise compose.
His wildlife paintings have resulted in charming studies of African fauna, portraying the various animals in their most natural habitats. Simon prefers working in acrylic on board or canvas, experimenting with texture and technique. His art investigates the drama of change and often captures motion, as though by the ravages of time.

Karoo fracking
Acrylic painting
Simon Addy provokes with his placement of a burning ship in the middle of a seemingly peaceful landscape. A political twist and call to arms about the harmfulness of fracking. Many of Simon’s paintings are assumed to be oil instead of acrylic, due to his meticulous layer upon layer method.
Edge of the world
Acrylic painting
Simon Addy once again demonstrates his ability to produce a stunning Karoo scene that is simultaneously thought provoking yet peaceful. Whilst Simon does base his works on real places, his landscapes are entirely made up. Adding a hint of the fantastical.
